| Title: Fiercest words: The Johny Fierce Interview | |
|
The Harold interviews: Harold: Thank you Fierce for sitting down to do this interview? First question is, what happened at the ppv? Johny Fierce: Pleasure to be here Harold, I'm always glad to talk to you. About the ppv...well...life's funny, any given night, one man can beat another. My mind wasn't in it and his was. Arsen Ayers beat me decisively and without any controversy, he just wanted it more than me that night and I congratulate him for getting the better of me Harold: You'd been on a roll for quite some time, the staff had you pegged for a world title push but a loss at the ppv and some bad bookings since, do you think your heat has cooled off? Do you feel your world title hopes are over now? Johny Fierce: No, not at all, a couple losses does not mean my "heat" is gone. In fact, April just may be my month. It starts at War when I take care of some unfinished business with Triple X, but it doesn't stop. I lost my shot at the World Title for now, but is it over? No. I've become too big for the front office to ignore forever, I've always felt I was being snubbed anyways, it may take 6 months, a year even, but one of these days I will get my shot at the World Title and become the top superstar in this company. Harold: What would winning the world title mean to you personally and professionally? Johny Fierce: Winning the world title has always been the ultimate prize in SFT. Winning it means you've finally made it to the top of the company. I've been wrestling within the Towers for...going on 7 years now, I've been through some serious rough times while being here. But since I made my come back in late October, I've felt better than ever. Winning the title now, at this point in my career would prove that I've become that superstar I've always wanted to be. That I've finally done everything I wanted to do in my career. It would silence the critics that have always haunted me. The ones that have always taunted me and told me I'd never be good enough to be anything. I want to win it to prove them wrong, to show them that I do indeed have what it takes to become that superstar. And most of all, I want to win it for myself, to be able to say that all the hard work I've put in through the last several years has been worth it. Harold: Well you are very close to achieving your goals. You've been around a long time, you date back to the SFW days, give us some history on Johny Fierce, where you got your start and how you found your way back to SFT. Johny Fierce: I started my career in pro wrestling in this little independent federation known as MWF, it was one of those insane hardcore ones that always had the brutal matches. I have to admit, I loved every minute of it. While I was there I met a kid known as Fat Tony aka Silencer, aka Switchblade. I had a little more experience than him so I basically took him under my wing and we went up in the feds together. Along the way we met a man named Nathan Gust who showed us SFW, and well, unless you've been living under a rock, you know all about him. I started a career there as the wrestler X2 and Switchy started as Silencer. I actually had a good run with X2 even winning the SFW title, but I was a one week wonder, it was a time when it wasn't even that wanted. A little after that, the personal problems started and I had to leave. I kept trying to make comebacks but to no avail, getting burned out happened too easily. The one thing that I was glad to see was that Switchy began his run in which he became World Champion twice maybe? and was entered into the Hall Of Fame, makes me proud to know that kid did so much with his career. Anyways, X2 finally died off, I needed to start over, he had become something that just didn't fit me and wasn't happy doing. I left for a long time before coming back as the man you see today, Johny Fierce. My Fierce wrestler has actually been wildly popular but I've never ACTUALLY won anything big with him, it’s been what...maybe 4 years and SFT hasn't been too kind to him. I left SFT and joined RWA where I was actually pretty big but the first incarnation didn't do too well, we all know that story. After that, I was in Gust's reincarnation of XCW and won some gold there. That fed died and I decided to retire from wrestling. I was out for over a year before Gust talked to me and asked me to come back. In late October I returned to the ring of SFT and here we are. Johny Fierce: I sort of feel like Michael Jordan ya know, I'll never stop having that urge Johny Fierce: now it’s just a matter of how much my body can take Harold: Well Gust was certainly a factor in your career, which for good or worse we'll leave that subject alone. But in both SFW and SFT there's been the "Shadow" factor as I like to call it. And whether its new people or old, I always have to ask the same question, how is your relationship with him and what is your take on him? Johny Fierce: ah, the man, the myth, the legend. No man I've ever met has ever fit that moniker more. He's become more than just "Shadow" he's become...SFT really. I talk to him now and again and some people may think that it’s like an act for the public to show, but no, he really thinks he's a demi god! He could kick any one of our asses any day of the week, so I'm not going to argue that point with him Harold: I have to ask this question and it may be silly, what's up with your first name? Is the spelling on purpose or was there some reason behind it? Johny Fierce: Ah! The bane of word processing software the worldwide. Johny is my way of being just a little different than everyone else. There are so many Johnnys in wrestling and well, I'm ACTUALLY Johnny, but that just won't fly. I've always been a little more spectacular than everyone else and at the very least when I finally call it a career for good, I'll be known as that freak with the weird spelled name. Johny Fierce: Or maybe I just misspelled the name on the application and it stuck from there...who knows! Harold: What does SFT mean to you? I mean allot of people call this place home, or the last fed they'll ever have. You've left a few times and come back just like so many. What is it about SFT that makes people want to call it their efed home or what is it that keeps them coming back? Johny Fierce: No matter where you go, there's always SFT to fall back on. Shadow is one of those guys that never holds grudges unless you really really screwed with him so you are always welcome. It helps that this is one of the longest lasting federations I've ever seen. It's always been around. This is where I truly started my career, this is where I've met all my friends in the industry. I've made bonds here that would just not be possible anywhere else. I've left to explore other federations but I'll wear the SFT shirt until the day I die. Harold: When it’s all said and done and you've finally truly retired from the game. When you're old and sitting in a rocking chair babysitting one of your grandchildren and you think back to your career? What will you think? How will you look back on your career? And one last question, one that I want to ask everyone, after it was all said and done, was it worth it? Johny Fierce: We come full circle. Its all about that World title, I've made that my goal in life. Nirvana, Cage, Havoc, Arsen...I don't care who holds it at the time, I will fight for it and I will win it. I know I have the potential to beat anyone in SFT or anywhere else for that matter. Even if I have to go through The Crimson King himself to get that World title...I will fight for it and I will win it. Nothing else matters anymore. When I am old, and thinking back I will look at my career as a failure and not worth it at all unless I capture that gold. It means that much to me. But I won't allow that to happen. I will win it. My career will be a success. The sweat, blood and tears...the bumps, the bruises...it will all be worth it. Harold: I'm sure it will. Well Johny I want to thank you for doing this interview with me today. I wish you luck in your quest for the title. Johny Fierce: Oh well, thanks it’s always a pleasure to talk to THE Harold. |
